Pakistanis can submit applications to update their CNIC photographs and addresses without visiting a NADRA registration center. Through NADRA’s PakID mobile app, they can benefit from digital identity services, document uploads and QR-code verification.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) allows citizens to apply for changes to their computerized national identity cards (CNICs) through the official PakID mobile app.
Services include CNIC renewal, modification and replacement of lost cards. Some applications may still require a visit to a NADRA Registration Centre.
How to Update a CNIC Photograph Online
Citizens can follow these steps to submit an application:
- Download the official PakID app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Register an account or sign in
- Select Identity Card and choose Myself or My Blood Relatives, as applicable
- Select the relevant card modification option and follow the instructions
- Enter the required information and capture the photograph adhering to NADRA standards
- Submit the application and track its progress through the app
NADRA’s app supports live photo capture designed to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. Applicants should follow the on-screen instructions for their photograph.
Citizens seeking to change their address can also apply for a CNIC modification through PakID. The application must meet NADRA’s requirements, and additional verification may be necessary.
Other Digital Services Available Through PakID
NADRA’s digital services also include:
- Access to digital identity services and document storage
- QR-code verification to verify eligible identity documents
- Biometric verification
- Application tracking
NADRA has also introduced a QR-code-based national identity card to support digital verification through the PakID app.
The digital services aim to reduce paperwork and make identity related applications more accessible. However applicants may still need to visit a registration center when NADRA requires additional biometric checks or in person verification
