Who Will Lay Humaira Asghar to Rest? Sindh Culture Ministry and Showbiz Industry Steps In

Pakistan actress and model Humaira Asghar died in her apartment in DHA Phase 6, where her body was in a decayed state when police entered the apartment on July 8, 2025, as part of an eviction process based on unpaid rent. The dead body found when a bad smell alerted police and bailiffs to force their way in the locked flat.

First postmortem, carried out by police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, established the body in a state of a high degree of decomposition. Though death was first reported to happened two weeks ago, the emerging forensic evidence which comprises food expired in September 2024, deactivated SIM cards, and a month-old disconnected power supply, present bearing that she died in October 2024, which is an estimate of nine months before she was found.

There were no signs of forced entry or physical trauma. The apartment was locked from the inside. Exact cause of death is pending a chemical examiner’s report.

Humaira Asghar Funeral and Last Rites

Reports initially confirmed the family, residing in Lahore, refused to claim the body, including a direct statement by Humaira’s father. This led to public backlash and intervention by celebrities and welfare organizations.

On July 10, the family reversed their stance, and Humaira’s brother-in-law contacted police to claim her body. The handover is pending final formalities. The body remains in the morgue.

Provincial Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah directed the Sindh Department of Culture to manage the burial if the family failed to do so. A letter was sent to the DIG East requesting handover of the body. Shah confirmed the department would act as legal guardian and oversee all arrangements, including burial and cemetery protocols.

The Director General of Culture has been appointed as the focal person in the matter.

Actors Collective Trust (ACT) and Industry Support

The Actors Collective Trust (ACT), along with social activist Meharbano Sethi, coordinated with CHHIPA Welfare to ensure a respectful burial. ACT confirmed its commitment to preserving artist dignity regardless of personal or familial challenges.

Prominent figures including Sonya Hussyn, Bushra Ansari, and Nadia Afgan publicly expressed grief and offered support. Hussyn released a video urging for respectful last rites. Sethi criticized those attempting to exploit the funeral for media coverage and stressed the need for a private burial in a marked grave.

Humaira Asghar, born October 10, 1992, in Lahore, was a graduate of National College of Arts. She gained fame through Tamasha Ghar (2022) and worked in projects like Jalaibee (2015), Love Vaccine (2021), and drama serials including Just Married, Ehsaan Faramosh, Guru, and Chal Dil Mere. She was also a Veet Miss Super Model winner (2014) and a 2023 National Women Leadership Award recipient.

Her last Instagram post was made on September 30, 2024.

Karachi police have sealed the apartment. The Crime Scene Unit collected Humaira’s mobile phone and other items for analysis. The investigation remains open pending forensic results.
