Federal minister for science and technology, Fawad Chaudhry revealed about the launching of new lunar calendar will be completed till 15th Ramadan.
The new 5 years lunar calendar will be finalized till 15th Ramadan, as said by Fawad Chaudhry. However, He revealed this while addressing a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee for Science and Technology.
Fawad Chaudhry further added that those wishing to see the moon can use the mobile application to do so as the government incurs an expenditure of Rs4 million for every moon sighting.
Earlier, he tweeted that the moon sighting committee of 5 members is formed for that purpose.

Joint Scientific Advisor MoST, Dr Muhammad Tariq Masood will perform the duties of committee convener. The other members of the moon sighting committee also include:
- Abu Nasan – Deputy Director, PMD
- Ghulam Murtaza – DCM SUPARCO, Islamabad
- Nadeem Faisal – Deputy Director, PMD
- Waqar Ahmed – Lecturer Meteorology Department, Comsats University Islamabad
Moreover, the committee’s responsibility will be to draft a Hijri calendar with 100% accuracy to avoid the controversy surrounding moon sightings for Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and also Moharram for the next five years.
