Lahore: 8 distanced Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) members of the National and Provincial Assembly have announced resignation from party and assembly to form Junoobi Punjab Mahaz to carve way for south Punjab Province. Khusro Bakhtiyar, Tahir Bashir Cheema, Basit Bukhari, Rana Qasim Noon, Tahir Iqbal and Balkh Shair Mazari from the National Assembly while Asghar Ali Shah and Nasrullah Dareshak from Provincial Assembly have announced to quit the party and resign from their seats in the assemblies to form a new party on account of injustices occurring in the South of Punjab, wanting to create a new south Punjab Province.
Injustices in the South Punjab
They said they have formed the ‘Junoobi Punjab Mahaz’ a front to fight for the creation of a new province in south of Punjab. They speak of the injustices that the people of South Punjab have to meet. According to Bakhtiyar, the poverty rate in southern Punjab is 51% which is greater than the poverty rate of the whole province. He also mentioned that there is only a bare 5% representation in the Public Service Commission from southern Punjab. He also added that they are not treated as equals in the same province, there is a need for a separate province and a separate province is our right.
Out of 58 justices, only four belong to southern Punjab. He added that there is a shortage of electricity in our areas of south Punjab but they are discussing installation of ACs in their Orange Line trains. He said that there are funds that are allocated to the southern belt in the budget but it is never released or used on its development. He said that many people will join in the party for their cause.
These resignations are sure to impact the party condition of PML-N as there has already been significant damage to it due to disqualification of its leaders Nawaz Sharif in the Supreme Court.
