Fire broke in Karachi’s superstore unable to extinguish

A fire outrage broke in the warehouse of Chase super store at 11 am on Wednesday. It is situated at Jail Chowrangi and still unable to extinguish after 24 hours. The fumes coming out of the building made it difficult for the fire extinguishers to enter. The basement was jammed with materials like spray, air fresheners, and cooking oil. Fire extinguishing balls were not working, said Arif Mansoori, senior fire officer. Further, he said that the basement fire did not catch to the upper floor.

Murtaza Wahab, Administrator Karachi reached the affected area to monitor the incident. Moreover, Rescue 1122 and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) were also among the helping hands.

The supermarket was located in a multi-story building. The smoke that covered the area also affected the nearby inhabitants. Four men passed away, among them two were firefighters. Despite the efforts of the fire brigade, the fire did not extinguish.

One of the main reasons the fire did not extinguish was the intensity of the smoke and the lack of ventilators. An emergency has been declared on water board hydrants. All the firefighting equipment was in the store which made the situation worse.

Police confirmed the evacuation of all the residents from the building. Further nearby houses are also notified to evacuate.
