Accountability court got 6 weeks to resolve Nawaz Sharif, Dar’s references

Supreme Court gave the 6 weeks extension to Accountability Court to resolve the corruption references against Nawaz Sharif and former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

Supreme Court gave the extension in Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar’s references after the Accountability Court’s judge Mohammad Bashir requested for the extension in today’s deadline. However, he asked the apex for the extension in references against former PM Nawaz Sharif and his family. CJP Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan heard the extension petition today.

During the hearing, Khawaja Haris, Nawaz’s counsel, raised his objection over the hearing of remaining references against the former PM. He said that the hearing is not fair as court already given the verdict in Avenfield reference. He further added that Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are returning Pakistan on July 13.

However, during the proceedings, Justice Ahsan remarked that the Avenfield and other two references are not similar. The court then gave the trial court six weeks to conclude the cases. However, the deadline will further extend if the references are not concluded on time.
