Oneja Andrew Robinson, an American woman from New York, has finally returned to the U.S. after spending 120 days in Pakistan. She arrived in Karachi on October 11, 2024, on a one-month tourist visa, allegedly for love. However, her stay turned into a long and unexpected journey that ended with her departure on an international airline flight EK 603 via Dubai.
Oneja Robinson came to Pakistan on a one-month visa, which expired on November 10, 2024. Instead of leaving, she remained in Karachi, wandering the city for several months. With her visa and return ticket both expired, her situation became complicated.
In mid-January, Oneja tried to enter Karachi Airport but was stopped by security. The Airport Security Force (ASF) detained her and handed her over to the airport police. After the intervention of the Sindh Governor, she was issued a 15-day exit permit on January 27, 2025. A welfare organization arranged a return ticket for her to travel back to the U.S.
Although arrangements were made to send her back on January 29, 2025, Oneja Robinson refused to board the flight. Even after completing airport formalities and reaching the aircraft, she told airline staff that she was being forced to leave. As a result, she was offloaded from the flight.
She then took a taxi from the airport and went to stay with her alleged friend in Karachi’s Garden area. After several days, a welfare organization provided her with shelter.
Due to health concerns, Oneja Robinson was admitted to the special ward of Jinnah Hospital, where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. A five-member medical board at Jinnah Hospital treated her for several days before declaring her fit to travel.
On Friday evening, she was discharged with outpatient medications and handed over to the police.
Officials from the U.S. Consulate visited Oneja Robinson at the hospital and persuaded her to return home. The consulate also arranged her return ticket, ensuring her safe departure from Pakistan.
After 120 days in Karachi, Oneja Robinson finally boarded flight EK 603 and left for the U.S. via Dubai. Her journey, which started as a search for love, ended with an unexpected turn of events, including overstaying, detention, and medical treatment.
