As winter approaches, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has added additional charges to gas bills under its geyser campaign. The charges relate to the installation of conical baffles in geysers, aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing gas consumption. However, this move has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among customers.
SSGC Geyser Charges In Gas Bills
According to reports, SSGC is charging an additional Rs2,085 for conical baffles, which are installed in geysers to conserve gas. Many customers have expressed frustration as they received bills with these charges despite not having geysers in their homes. Millions of SSGC consumers, particularly those without geysers, are upset about these unexpected charges.
OGRA’s Clarification on Conical Baffle Charges
In response to public outcry, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) issued a statement clarifying the situation. OGRA confirmed that the installation of conical baffles has been approved to enhance safety and help reduce gas bills. However, the regulatory body also emphasized that consumers who do not have geysers but were still charged should file complaints with SSGC.
An OGRA spokesperson advised affected consumers to contact SSGC directly to resolve issues related to incorrect charges.
SSGC’s Response
SSGC officials responded to the backlash by stating that conical baffle installations followed proper surveys. They explained that these surveys were conducted to ensure appropriate installations, and the charges were implemented after receiving regulatory approval from OGRA.
For customers who have concerns or believe they were wrongly charged, SSGC has urged them to visit their nearest Customer Facilitation Center (CFC) to lodge complaints and seek resolution.
The inclusion of conical baffle charges in gas bills has caused a stir among SSGC customers, particularly those without geysers. While the company and OGRA have defended the move as necessary for safety and efficiency, affected consumers are encouraged to reach out to SSGC for clarification and to resolve any discrepancies in their bills.
