In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the son of renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, Maulana Asim Jameel, tragically took his own life. As his body laid to rest in his native town of Mian Channu, a veil of sorrow and speculation shrouds the circumstances surrounding his suicide.
Maulana Yousaf Jameel, Asim’s brother, has come forward to dispel any misconceptions and rumors. In a video statement, Maulana Yousaf revealed that Asim had battled acute depression since his childhood. Over the last six months, his condition had deteriorated to the point where he was undergoing electric shock therapy in an attempt to alleviate his suffering. Tragically, Asim’s struggles reached a breaking point when, left alone at home, he took a gun from a security guard and ended his life. Maulana Yousaf firmly refuted any claims of enmity with anyone, emphasizing that such allegations unfounded.
Maulana Tariq Jamil, grieving the loss of his son, announced on Twitter that the funeral prayer (Namaz-i-Janaza) for Asim Jameel would held in their native village of Raeesabad in Talamba on Monday, October 30, at 7:30 PM. The news had initially circulated that Asim had died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Asim Jameel’s body has transported to Raeesabad, the family’s hometown, where heightened security measures have put in place by the local police. It was reported that Asim was at a gym when the tragic incident occurred. Medical professionals determined that he had indeed sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Disturbingly, CCTV footage showed Asim Jameel appearing to take his own life.
The police force continues to investigate the matter, and DSP Mian Chanun Saleem Marth disclosed that Asim rushed to the Talamba Rural Health Centre in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has garnered the attention of IGP Punjab Usman Anwar, who has requested a comprehensive report from RPO Multan. The evidence will meticulously examined to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic loss.
