Authorities Declare Emergency in Karachi After Heavy Rain Forecast


KARACHI: The metropolis’ authorities have declared emergency after heavy rain have been forecast by Meteorological department.

Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has declared emergency across the city. The authority has instructed workers to be ready 24 hours with cranes, water draining pumps and generators. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain with stormy winds across the city for Thursday and Friday.

However; many of the cities stormwater drains have garbage clogging them. This will cause the water to flood the areas the drains are clogged in. Supreme Court had issued directives to clean these drains, but no action was taken even after the orders.

The drainage near Teen Talwar in Clifton and Khamosh Colony is still partially clogged. Storm water may not pass through it properly and roads might end up flooding.

For Thursday and Friday the weather department has predicted heavy rain throughout the country along with stormy clouds. Many cities of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and KPK along with Gilgit Baltistan will be affected by these rains.

For Thursday, the Met department has predicted rain along with thunder with stormy winds at scattered locations of Kalat, Dera Ismail Khan, Mirpur Khas, Lahore, Gujranwala, Kashmir and isolated places of cities like Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Larkana, Hyderabad, Makran divisions, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan.

For Friday, rain with thunder and stormy winds are expected at different places in Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Karachi, Kalat, Zhob, Bahawalpur divisions and Kashmir, and at isolated locations of Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu, Peshawar, D.I. Khan, D.G. Khan, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Quetta divisions, FATA, Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan.
