Avenfield Reference: Capt (r) Safdar Denies Involvement in Avenfield Case

ISLAMABAD: Captain (retd) Safdar has denied any involvement in the Avenfield Reference. His counsel Amjad Pervez has said that many dealings were before he married Maryam Nawaz.

Captain (retd) Safdar, son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, is recording his statement in second consecutive day, today in Avenfield Reference. Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz have filed for exemption from appearing in the Accountability Court. Yesterday they had left shortly after just marking their attendance in Court.

While recording his statement he said that the letter by Mossack Fonseca does not concern me. He added that the letter is not verifiable as per law of indictment and is not a primary document. Captain (retd) Safdar said that the letter cannot be accepted as it would be against holding a free and transparent trial.

When questioned in the Capital FZE he said that the charges do not concern me either.

Yesterday when questioned about the absence of ministers, Nawaz Sharif and Wife Maryam, he said he wanted it. He said that he did not want Nawaz Sharif on the back benches as it creates more pressure on him.

The PML-N leader said that Maryam has been my wife for 25 years and was with me always. But right now Nawaz Sharif needs her so he asked him to be with her father.

Avenfield Reference is one of the three corruption cases filed against Sharif Family by NAB. NAB was ordered to file the cases by Supreme Court in the light of the Panama Papers case verdict.
