Bilawal Bhutto Slams India at UN Over Kashmir & Water Treaty

Pakistan’s former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto has once again brought global attention to India’s escalating aggression during his address to the OIC Group at the United Nations in New York. He highlighted India’s recent actions, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, as a grave threat to regional peace and stability in South Asia.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to continue supporting Pakistan’s efforts for peace, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action against India’s unilateral moves. He said the only path to lasting peace lies in the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

He also condemned the rise in Islamophobia in India, the worsening human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and the disinformation campaigns targeting the legitimate Kashmiri struggle for self-determination. Bilawal called on the Muslim Ummah to reject these false narratives and stand united for justice.

In another meeting, a high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by Bilawal Bhutto, met with Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, President of the UN Security Council and Permanent Representative of Guyana. The delegation briefed her on the alarming developments following India’s recent provocations, especially after the Pahalgam attack, where India issued baseless allegations without credible evidence.

Bilawal condemned India’s unilateral military actions, including strikes on civilians and infrastructure, and termed the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty as a dangerous move that weaponizes a critical natural resource, violating international agreements.

He reiterated Pakistan’s strong opposition to terrorism in all forms, noting that Pakistan has itself suffered the most from terrorism. However, he stressed that terror incidents must not be misused as a pretext for illegal military actions.

The delegation urged the Security Council to take a proactive role in de-escalation and in ensuring respect for international treaties, particularly the Indus Waters Treaty and the Kashmir issue. They stressed that peace in the region hinges on the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir through dialogue.
