Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari spoke out in Lahore. He firmly opposed banning any political party, believing the opposition needs political space. However, he cautioned against groups, implicitly referring to the PTI, that target state institutions, especially the armed forces, on social media. Bilawal insisted on crucial electoral reforms before any new polls begin.
PPP Leader Calls Out “Political Deceit”
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari made his stance clear: political party ban is not the answer. He stressed that all opposition groups deserve to operate within the political field. He criticized one party for acting like a “political deceiver,” attempting to drive a wedge between the public and the armed forces. This “extremist politics” is creating dangerous divisions, he warned. Targeting state institutions through continuous social media attacks ultimately harms the entire country.
Election Reforms Must Precede Polls
The PPP Chairman insisted that genuine electoral reforms must be implemented immediately. Without them, the next election will face the same old controversies. He wants to prevent accusations of “Form-47 rigging” against any Chief Minister. Likewise, he wants to ensure no future Prime Minister is unfairly labeled “selected.” Fair elections and political space matter more than suppressing opposing voices.
Security, Stability, and Maryam Nawaz
Bilawal acknowledged serious security threats like cross-border terrorism and internal instability. He urged all political groups to avoid extremist behavior and focus instead on public service. He said his party does not support a blanket ban, but political forces must follow democratic norms. He added a surprising note: he would be pleased if Maryam Nawaz chooses to contest elections from Sindh. Bilawal’s message is a middle path: no PTI ban, but parties must play by democratic rules to protect the nation’s stability.
