BISP Kafaalat Payment Increased to Rs13,500 Starting January 2025

The Government of Pakistan has announced an increase in the quarterly payments under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Kafaalat initiative. Starting January 2025, registered families will receive Rs13,500 per quarter, marking a significant rise of Rs3,000 from the current amount of Rs10,500.

This increment aims to provide relief to low-income families struggling with high inflation and economic challenges.

Overview of BISP Kafaalat Program

Launched in 2008, the BISP Kafaalat initiative is the largest cash transfer program in Pakistan. It has two primary objectives:

  • Short-term Goal: Alleviating the effects of inflation, food insecurity, and economic instability.
  • Long-term Goal: Eradicating extreme poverty and promoting women empowerment in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

BISP Kafaalat Registration: PMT Score Criteria

The BISP Kafaalat program uses a Proxy Means Test (PMT) through the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) to identify eligible families. The eligibility is based on a PMT score, which ranges between 0-100.

  • Standard Eligibility: Families with a PMT score of 32 or below.
  • For Differently Abled Individuals: Families with a PMT score of 37 or below.

These cut-off scores were approved by the BISP Board in September 2021.

Expanded Bank List for BISP Payments

To ensure smooth withdrawal of cash assistance, the government has expanded the list of banks for disbursements. Beneficiaries can now access their payments through the following banks:

  • Bank Alfalah
  • Bank of Punjab
  • Mobilink Microfinance/JazzCash
  • Telenor Microfinance Bank
  • Habib Bank Limited (HBL)
  • HBL Microfinance

This expansion aims to reduce the long waiting times previously observed at collection points.

Key Features of BISP Kafaalat

  • Payment Increase: Beneficiaries will now receive Rs13,500 per quarter starting January 2025.
  • Women Empowerment: The program supports women’s financial independence by prioritizing them in the registration process.
  • Economic Relief: The increased payments aim to provide relief amid rising costs of living.

How BISP Kafaalat Impacts Lives

The BISP Kafaalat program has been instrumental in supporting marginalized communities. The new payment structure is expected to further strengthen its role in reducing poverty and fostering socio-economic stability in Pakistan.
