The caretaker federal cabinet overturned the order of Nawaz’s Sharif trial in Al-Azizia and Flagship references at Adiala Jail. There will be an open trial in Accountability Court on July 30.
Nawaz Sharif will not face trial in Adiala Jail as the cabinet overturned the decision of his trial within the jail premises. The cabinet meeting was held under interim PM Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk. It analyzed the matter of reversing of notifications issued by Ministry of Law and Justice as per NAB orders.
However, the trial of former PM in Flagship and Al-Azizia references will happen in the Accountability Court where it is under way since 2017. The next hearing is due on 30th July after Pakistan Election 2018.
Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir also postponed the Al Azizia Reference hearing till the announcement of IHC’s verdict. However, he had to hear the Al Azizia case against Nawaz Sharif in Adiala Jail.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif filed petition related to the rejection of Flagship and Al Azizia reference. However, he filed a petition to move both corruption references out of the Accountability Court. He remarked that only the High Court has a case transfer mandate.
A few days back, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Captain (Retd) Safdar sentenced the imprisonment of 10, 7, and 1 years respectively in the Avenfield Reference. The court also fined Nawaz and Maryam 8 million and 2 million Pounds respectively. NAB also moved all three convicts to the Adiala Jail Rawalpindi where they will spend their imprisonment duration.
