The eagerly awaited sighting of the Eid ul-Fitr moon will be the highlight of the upcoming meeting of the Central Moon Sighting Committee, scheduled for April 9. Chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee will convene in Islamabad, bringing together members, meteorological experts, SPARCO representatives, and officials from the science and technology sector.
The meeting venue is set at the Kohsar Complex within the Ministry of Religious Affairs premises. Zonal moon sighting committees across the country will also gather simultaneously at their designated locations.
During the meeting, eyewitness testimonies regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon will be collected and deliberated upon. The chairman of the central committee will subsequently announce whether or not the Shawwal moon has been sighted, marking the official beginning of Eid ul-Fitr celebrations.
The meteorological department has expressed optimism about favorable weather conditions on April 9, with clear skies expected in most parts of the country. This forecast increases the likelihood of a successful moon sighting, as the moon’s age will also be conducive to its visibility to the naked eye.
Stay tuned for updates as the Central Moon Sighting Committee prepares to determine the start of Eid ul-Fitr festivities based on the sighting of the new moon.
