RAWALPINDI: A special ceremony was held in Gayari, Siachen, to give honor to the martyrs of a massive snow avalanche in 2012.
Ceremony was arranged to pay tribute to the martyrs of Gayari Sector, Siachen, who got buried under a massive avalanche. The ceremony was attended by Gilgit-Baltistan CM, corps commander Rawalpindi and relatives of the martyrs who had laid their lives in defense of the state.
According to the ISPR, the Corps Commander Lieutenant General Nadeem Raza laid a floral wreath at Shuhada Monument. Paying tribute to the martyrs and their families, he said that Pakistan Army will always honor the officers and men who were martyred in service of the motherland.
Over 100 soldiers had embraced martyrdom in result of an avalanche burying the military headquarters in the Gayari sector. The Sixth Northern Light Infantry Regiment was on duty, operating in cold as -60°C (-76°F) battling snowstorms and altitude sickness. The army headquarter was lost under an avalanche 80 feet deep and almost 1 kilometer across on each side.
