ISLAMABAD: CJP Saqib Nisar, said that government has implemented ineffective measures to control pollution in Karachi.
CJP Saqib Nisar, observed this while hearing a petition that states factories in Karachi require cloud technology to keep the pollution in check caused by the gases and chemical waste they release.
Chief Justice also noticed that the metropolitan capital is facing shortage of water. He also said that the informal settlements also add on to the pollution problem in the city.
However CJP Saqib Nisar ensured that he will provide basic facilities to the people before his term finishes. He added that he will fix things before he retires. CJP also said that he will not leave his country in a state that the air is not fit to breath.
CJP then adjourned the case for a month. He also directed the petitioner to meet Justice Munib Akhtar in city of Karachi.
Venu G Advani, the lawyer who filed the petition, said he was seeking to enforce the air quality regulations in the port city.
He said that only the court can ensure the constitutional right to a clean environment. He added that the key to that is clean air.
