CNIC Delays Possible After Major Data Stolen From NADRA

In a shocking revelation, a joint investigative team (JIT) has discovered a significant data breach involving the personal details of 2.7 million Pakistani citizens. The data reportedly stolen from the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

The JIT, led by Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) official, has concluded its probe into the alleged breach of Nadra’s database. The investigation spanned four years, from 2019 to 2023, and the findings have submitted to the Ministry of Interior for review.

The report indicates that the data theft originated from Nadra’s offices in Multan, Karachi, and Peshawar. The JIT has recommended punitive measures against the senior officials of the authority whose negligence resulted in this colossal data theft.

Interestingly, the stolen data seems to have taken a global tour. It allegedly transported from Multan to Peshawar, then to Dubai, and finally sold in Argentina and Romania.

The formation of the JIT was a response to a cybersecurity incident that occurred in March 2023. The issue of data security brought to the forefront when confidential information about senior military officials leaked and subsequently reported in the media.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of robust data security measures and the potential consequences of negligence.
