Commissioner Imposes Ban on Kite Sales and Flying in Karachi Amidst Safety Concerns

Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Rajpoot has taken decisive action by imposing a ban on the sale and flying of kites within the city limits. This move, executed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), aims to address the rising number of serious injuries caused by hazardous metal strings used in kite flying activities.

Effective from March 30 to May 29, the ban encompasses the manufacturing, sale, and flying of kites throughout Karachi. The decision was prompted by a string of incidents involving citizens sustaining severe injuries due to loose kite strings, posing grave risks to public safety.

The recent hospitalization of a 20-year-old Karachi resident named Awais underscores the urgency of this measure. Awais was critically injured by a loose kite string while riding a motorcycle in the Azizabad area, highlighting the potential dangers associated with uncontrolled kite flying practices.

Similarly, another incident involved a minor boy who suffered injuries from a loose kite string while riding a motorcycle with his father in Nazimabad, further emphasizing the need for stringent regulations.

Commissioner Rajpoot’s proactive stance reflects the authorities’ commitment to safeguarding citizens’ lives and preventing such accidents. The ban on kite-related activities serves as a preventive measure during this period of heightened safety concerns, ensuring a safer environment for residents across Karachi.
