The Sindh government has announced a complete ban on plastic bags across the province. This decision, taken on the recommendation of the Department of Environment, targets all types of plastic bags regardless of size or thickness.
According to the new policy, the ban on plastic bags in Sindh includes both carrier bags and shopping bags of every weight and dimension. The rule is clear—no plastic bag, whether it’s thin or thick, will be allowed for use, sale, or manufacturing in the province.
The ban is comprehensive, covering non-biodegradable and oxo-degradable plastic bags. This action marks a tough stance by the government to fight plastic pollution and aligns with global efforts to reduce plastic waste that clogs drains, pollutes landfills, and harms marine life.
This decision also brings an important amendment to the 2014 plastic product laws. The new rules aim to make the existing regulations more stringent and effective. Previously, plastic bags with a thickness of more than 40 microns were permitted—but not anymore.
As per official sources, the plastic bag ban in Sindh will come into effect 60 days after cabinet approval. This grace period has been provided for the public and manufacturers to adjust and shift to eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth or paper bags.
The Sindh government’s plastic bag ban is being seen as a bold environmental move. With rising concerns about climate change and urban pollution, this action is expected to contribute to a cleaner and greener future for the province.
