KARACHI: Construction of a new convent’s campus of Convent of Jesus and Mary, Karachi has been halted by an influential person.
The groundbreaking for the construction of the campus of Convent was done by CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah himself. Yet the work on has stopped few days after the groundbreaking was done.
The paper work for the construction of new campus of the institution has been completed already. The convent is known for imparting quality education to students in the city. The paper work includes permissions from various administrative departments including Karachi Development Authority, Sindh Building Control Authority and Clifton Cantonment Board.
Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, laid foundation for the new campus, sprawling over 5000 yards in Clifton Block-5. After the foundation was laid on April 25, the construction work on the site had started.
According to news sources, however; only after a few days of construction, work was stopped on the orders of an influential person. Sources also cite that the inaugural plaque of CM Sindh on the site has also been removed.
The administration of Convent of Jesus and Mary then went to the administrative bodies and the government. But no action was taken against the closure of work. The commissioner Karachi has refused to speak on convent’s campus issue as well.
