Covid: Balochistan Reports 30 Suspected Omicron cases

At least 30 suspected cases of �Omicron� variant of the prevailing coronavirus were reported on Tuesday in Balochistan.

According to sources, the BAP-led provincial government has imposed a 15-day lockdown in Balochistan�s Kech district in order to control the spread of the newly found variant.

Health officials said samples of the suspected patients have been sent to the National Institute of Heart Diseases (NIHD in Islamabad.

Speaking to the media, Covid cell in-charge Dr Naqeebullah Niazi said the suspected Omicron cases had emerged in Kalat first.

He added that the Kalat district health officer was immediately advised to quarantine the suspected patients.

�All doctors have been told to observe caution in wake of the Omicron cases,� a statement from the Balochistan health department read.

All shops and markets, except for essential services, in Kech district will remain closed during the lockdown.

Private and government schools, colleges, universities along with the inter-provincial bus services will also remain closed for two weeks.

Restaurants of the district have only been allowed to delivery and take away services.

The general public has been urged to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Provincial Covid death toll currently stands at 363 as no new fatalities were reported so far.
