Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Minister Asad Umar on Sunday warned of clear signs of a fifth Covid wave in the country.
�Clear evidence now of a beginning of another covid wave which has been expected for last few weeks,� he said in a tweet.
Umar urged the public to wear masks and adhere to Covid standard operating procedures. .�Wearing a mask is your best protection.�
The minister added that genome sequencing showed a rise in the Omicron variant of coronavirus cases in the country.
Sources familiar with the matter said Omicron cases are rising in the country, especially in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
Islamabad has reported 64 Omicron so far while 49 have been detected in Lahore, according to government sources.
It is strongly recommended for people to get vaccinated and also get their booster shots in order to keep themselves save from the new Covid wave.
