The Dawn Media Group has decided to shut down its Dawn News Urdu website in December 2025. The team met for a farewell lunch at the Karachi Press Club, where colleagues shared memories and talked about the end of the platform. Financial pressure and policy changes pushed the decision forward.
Dawn News Urdu Website Shut Down
The Dawn News shut down update became real for the Dawn Urdu website team this week when they gathered for a farewell lunch at the Karachi Press Club. The digital staff met for one last time and shared stories from their years of work.
Farhan Muhammad Khan, Head of Dawn Digital (Urdu), led the gathering. He thanked the team and spoke about the effort they put into the Urdu website. He prayed for their future and encouraged them to stay connected. The team talked about breaking news shifts, long nights, and friendships that grew inside the newsroom.
The Dawn News shut down decision affects only the Urdu digital platform. The group will stop the website because of financial pressure and structural changes. The company has faced a steady drop in revenue. Dawn Media Group also mentioned earlier this year that both the federal and Punjab governments held back advertisements for months. This cut their income even more.
The closure will lay off all 12 employees from the Urdu website. They received a one-month notice. The website will go offline on 10th December 2025, reportedly. The Dawn News shut down update does not include Dawn.com or DawnNews TV, which continue to publish news as of 9 December 2025.
This shutdown follows the earlier closure of Dawn’s Quetta office and the DawnNews TV bureau in Balochistan. Those moves already signaled how economic and political pressure is reshaping the media industry in Pakistan.
The farewell lunch ended with photos, goodbyes, and promises to stay in touch. The website is closing, but the memories and teamwork built over the years will remain part of their journey.
