Double-Decker Buses in Karachi to Run on Shahrah E Faisal Roads from August

The government of Sindh announced that the double-decker buses in Karachi would be on the roads in August 2025. The scheme was verified by the Sindh Minister of Information and Transport (Sharjeel Inam Memon) in a press conference where he mentioned plans of public transport that would enhance urban mobility and ease congestion.

The initial route expected to cover main roads with high commuter volume, specifically Shahrah-e-Faisal. The move is part of the People’s Bus Service expansion.

The minister also stated that the government plans to add 500 to 1000 electric buses to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. This includes ongoing work on the BRT Red Line, with electric vehicles intended to help reduce fuel consumption and improve air quality in the city.

Karachi previously operated double decker buses, circular railways, and tram services. The upcoming rollout will mark the return of a transit option that was once a staple in the city’s public transport history.
