Double Decker Bus Karachi to Hit the Streets Next Week
Karachi commuters are in for a transport upgrade as the city prepares to welcome double-decker buses and new electric vehicles (EVs) from next week. Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed that double-decker buses will specifically run on Shahrah-e-Faisal, aiming to ease congestion and improve urban mobility.
The announcement came during the inauguration of Pink Buses on the Green Line track today. Speaking to the media, Memon said, “The coming days will bring good news from the Transport Department, with double-decker buses soon on Shahrah-e-Faisal.”

Expansion of People’s Bus and EV Services
The provincial government is expanding the People’s Bus service to additional districts across Sindh. Memon highlighted that new routes will allow residents to travel efficiently while enhancing the city’s public transport network.
It is also planned to launch EV taxis in December, and add another 500 buses to the Karachi transport fleet. The electric bus will also have dedicated buses available to women and this means that the travel will be safer and more inclusive.
Sharjeel Memon announced that the Transport Department was going to roll out free customized bikes with special consideration to the person with a disability and transgender commuters. He also observed that Red Line disputes are near end and both the political parties and the media will be informed soon.
Memon has put stress on the timely completion of the Yellow Line BRT project which will ensure that the government is dedicated to the delivery of the urban transport projects on time.
