In a landmark decision, the Punjab government has unveiled a series of updates during its 33rd cabinet meeting chaired by Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Effective January 1, 2024, the learner’s driving license fee will experience a substantial increase from Rs 60 to Rs 1,000. This decision aims to enhance road safety and promote responsible driving behavior among new license holders.
In addition to the driving license adjustments, the cabinet has approved fee revisions for various vehicle categories. The fees for obtaining licenses for Light Transport Vehicles (LTV), Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTV), and Public Service Vehicles (PSV) will also see an increase. Notably, citizens from the United States, Canada, and other countries can conveniently apply for licenses online, subject to a $100 license fee.
Furthermore, the cabinet addressed wildlife regulations by revising shooting license fees under the Punjab Wildlife Rules 1974. This move aligns with the government’s commitment to wildlife conservation and responsible hunting practices.
In a bid to promote education, the cabinet approved the establishment of a Potohar campus for the University of Punjab in Gujjar Khan. This initiative is poised to provide educational opportunities and contribute to the region’s academic development.
Additionally, the cabinet greenlit an agreement to exchange information on the registration of motor vehicles with the National Highways and Motorway Police. This collaborative effort aims to streamline communication and improve overall road safety measures.
These comprehensive decisions reflect the Punjab government’s commitment to fostering responsible citizenship, enhancing road safety, and advancing education in the region.
