DSP Ali Raza Fatally Shot in Targeted Attack Near Karachi’s Karimabad

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ali Raza of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was tragically killed in a targeted attack near Karachi’s Karimabad area on Sunday evening.

DSP Raza, who was serving as the DSP CTD Investigation, was ambushed by unknown assailants who opened fire on him. Despite being rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

In response to the incident, the Sindh Home Minister has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central and the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) CTD to submit detailed reports on the attack. Additionally, the Minister has ordered the immediate arrest of those responsible.

This attack comes at a time when the Pakistan government has announced the launch of a “reinvigorated” national counter-terrorism campaign aimed at eradicating extremism and terrorism from the country. This campaign has been initiated in the wake of an escalating wave of terrorism, primarily targeting security forces in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Balochistan provinces in recent years.

According to an annual security report issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan witnessed 1,524 violence-related fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations in 2023, marking a record six-year high.

The killing of DSP Ali Raza underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism and maintaining security in the region.
