Earthquake in Karachi: 3.6 Magnitude Tremor Sparks Panic – No Casualties Reported

Earthquake tremors were felt in several cities across Pakistan on Sunday, causing panic among residents. The most recent quake was reported in Karachi, where mild tremors struck parts of the city, including Quaidabad.

The earthquake in Karachi registered a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale with a depth of 10 kilometres. The Seismological Centre confirmed the epicentre near Quaidabad, a densely populated area. Fortunately, no damage or casualties were reported.

Zhob Earthquake – Magnitude 4.4

Earlier in the day, Zhob and adjoining areas in Balochistan were jolted by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake. The tremors were recorded at a depth of 40 kilometres, with the epicentre located southeast of Zhob, according to the Seismological Centre.

Residents, frightened by the sudden tremors, rushed out of their homes, reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba. However, there were no immediate reports of injuries or property damage from any part of Zhob or Khuzdar.

Swat Earthquake – Multiple Tremors Recorded

On May 18, and again on Sunday, moderate tremors were felt in the Swat region. Both incidents recorded a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale. The epicentre for these earthquakes was located in the Hindukush Mountain range, a seismically active region spanning northern Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The depth was recorded at 205 kilometres, minimizing surface impact. Tremors were strongly felt in Mingora and surrounding areas of Swat. Authorities confirmed no loss of life or structural damage in either incident.

Pakistan’s Seismic Activity and Public Response

Pakistan is situated in a seismically active zone, with regular tremors experienced in various regions, especially near the Hindukush, Balochistan, and southern Sindh areas. Sunday’s series of tremors in Karachi, Zhob, and Swat serve as a reminder of the region’s geological vulnerability.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and follow safety protocols during such events. Emergency services remain on alert in all affected areas.
