ECP Constitutes 20 Appellate Tribunals to Hear Petition on Nominations


ISLAMABAD: Election Commission Pakistan ( ECP ) has constituted 20 appellate tribunals to hear petitions against acceptance and rejection of nominations.

ECP has issued a notification which states that the appellate tribunals formed is based on High Court Judges.

Of twenty, eight tribunals have been formed for Punjab province while six are for KP. Four tribunals have been formed for Sindh and only two have been constituted for Balochistan.

According to new schedule, appeals against acceptance and rejection of nominations can be filed till 22 June. The tribunals are to wind up their verdicts by 27th June after which the list of candidates will be published.

The last date to withdraw nominations from the elections is fixed for 29th of June. The electoral symbols for the parties will be allocated on 30th of June. The final list of candidates will be published for public view on the same day.

The general elections 2018 have been scheduled to be held on 25th of July.

Election Commission has requested Ministry of Defence to post military troops on polling stations on election day. ECP stated in summary sent to ministry that troops are needed to maintain law and order during elections.
