The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) postpones elections in PK-78 Peshawar-XIII constituency on Wednesday after a suicide blast killed Awami National Party (ANP) Barrister Haroon Bilour and 19 others.
The elections were put off because of the passing Bilour, who was the candidate for PK-78, the ECP said, including that the new timetable for the said polls in the constituency will be decided later.
Other candidates running from said constituents are Mahad Tariq (TLP), and Niaz Muhammad Momand and Muhammad Irfan, both contesting Independently.
Chief Commissioner Justice (Retd) Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan, denounced the attacks on, and terming it a “shortcomings of security agencies”.
The attack is a sinister plan against fair and free elections, the CEC stated, noting that provincial authorities were requested to give foolproof security to all candidates. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has likewise announced a three-day grieving in light of the incident, with legal counselors to halt court proceedings.
