On the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ, the government has announced a special remission in sentences for prisoners across the country. According to an official notification, a 90-day reduction in sentences has been granted to eligible prisoners, a move that reflects the spirit of compassion associated with this holy event.
However, the notification clearly outlines that this remission will not apply to those involved in serious crimes such as murder, espionage, or anti-state activities. In addition, prisoners convicted of offenses like adultery, theft, robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, and misappropriation of the national treasury will not benefit from this relief.
Notably, male prisoners over the age of 65 who have served at least one-third of their sentences are eligible for this reduction. This concession aims to bring relief to deserving inmates while ensuring public safety by excluding those involved in major crimes.
