The Sindh government has imposed Section 144 in Karachi, specifically targeting beach areas from June 5 to June 13, 2025, just ahead of Eid ul Adha. This move comes as part of a strict safety measure to prevent public gatherings and beach visits due to dangerous sea conditions.
According to sources, the Section 144 Karachi beach restriction is aimed at ensuring public safety during the Eid holidays when thousands traditionally flock to the coast. The ban prohibits swimming and any recreational activity on Karachi’s beaches, including popular spots like Clifton, Hawksbay, and Sandspit.
Authorities have cited hazardous sea tides, strong undercurrents, and the increasing risk of drowning incidents during monsoon onset as the primary reasons behind this decision. With previous Eid holidays witnessing multiple casualties due to unsafe swimming conditions, the enforcement of Section 144 in Karachi serves as a proactive step to avoid repeat tragedies.
Law enforcement personnel, particularly from the District South Police, deployed to strictly implement the Section 144 Karachi beach ban. Any individual found violating the order dealt with under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which carries penalties including imprisonment, fines, or both.
This preventive action is valid for a total of nine days and coincides with peak Eid tourism in the city. Families planning picnics or visits to the coast are urged to comply with the directive and avoid all beach areas until the restriction is lifted.
The notification has been widely circulated among local authorities, media outlets, and civil society to ensure maximum awareness. Karachiites are being requested to celebrate Eid safely and responsibly by following government instructions during this period.
