Elections 2018: ECP Extends Voting Time by One Hour


ISLAMABAD: ECP has extended the duration of the polling on 25th of July by an hour for elections 2018.

This will be the first time in history of elections in Pakistan that polling time has been extended. The decision was made to ensure a maximum voter turn out for the elections 2018.

The vote timing will begin 8:00 am in morning and carry on till 6:00 pm. The polling process will continue without any break time and the process will carry on till evening.

One of the biggest democratic parties of the country, PTI had also requested an extension in poll timings. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, on June 26th had sent a letter to ECP requesting an increase of 3 hours in poll times. The party requested polling to start at 7:00 am in morning and carry on till 8:00 pm.

The party Chairman, Imran Khan himself had written the letter requesting of the extension. PTI spokesperson, Fawad Chaudhry said we are requesting extension owing to the summer heat. He said people will try to avoid the sweltering heat in afternoon time and it will effect voter turnout.
