Sindh’s Government modernized Karachi’s public transport with Pakistan’s first Electric Bus Service, part of the Peoples Bus Service. It brings eco-friendly and efficient commuting to the city. This article details the routes of Karachi’s new Electric Bus Service.
The announcement of this groundbreaking service was made by Sindh Information Minister, Sharjeel Memon, via his Twitter account. Alongside the announcement, he unveiled the detailed routes of the Electric Bus Service, which officially commenced operations today.
Karachi Electric Bus Service Routes
Here are the routes for the new Karachi Electric Bus Service:
Route EV-1: The Electric Bus Service commences its journey from Tank Chowk, situated near Jinnah Avenue, and traverses through key locations, including the airport area, Shahrah-e-Faisal, FTC, Korangi, and Khayaban-e-Ittehad, culminating its route at the Clock Tower located at Seaview.
Route EV-2: This route originates at Bahria Town and heads towards Malir Halt. It passes through significant landmarks such as the M9 Toll Plaza, Baqai University, Jinnah Avenue, Malir Cantt, Tank Chowk, and Model Colony.
Route EV-3: The newly launched Route EV-3 of the Electric Bus Service initiates its journey from Malir Cant Check Post 5 and heads towards Numaish. Along the way, it stops at Safoora Chowrangi, Mosamiyat, Kamran Chowrangi, Perfume Chowk, Millennium Mall, Dalmia, Aga Khan Hospital, Liaquat National, and MA Jinnah Road. After reaching MA Jinnah Road, it seamlessly connects to Peoples Bus Service (PBS) route 4, continuing its route till Tower.
Fare
To avail of this convenient and sustainable mode of transportation, passengers will be required to pay a fare of Rs. 50.
Eco-Friendly and Efficient
The Karachi Electric Bus Service is eco-friendly and efficient. The electric buses can travel up to 240 kilometers on a 20-minute charge. They exclusively use solar energy from transport ministry-installed solar panels, reducing carbon emissions.
Furthermore, each electric bus has a seating capacity of 30 passengers, with additional room for 40 standing passengers. Moreover, there is a dedicated section for disabled individuals, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all commuters.
The project was announced in November. The Sindh Government is revamping Karachi’s neglected public transport system. The Electric Bus Service promises a greener and more efficient future for the city and sets a sustainable development precedent in Pakistan.
