Electricity bills to rise in Pakistan as distribution companies have submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking an increase of 19 paisas per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) filed the request for August fuel adjustment, with the hearing scheduled for September 29. If approved, electricity bills to rise in Pakistan and it will directly affect consumers across the country, including Karachi.
According to CPPA’s data, 14.22 billion units of electricity were generated in August 2025. Out of this, 13.715 billion units were supplied to distribution companies. The average cost of generation stood at Rs. 7.50 per unit compared to the reference cost of Rs. 7.31 per unit.
The proposed fuel adjustment will also apply to K-Electric customers, which means electricity bills to rise in Pakistan for all categories of users nationwide. The adjustment will be reflected in upcoming bills if NEPRA approves the request.
