Major Policy Change in Electricity Companies: Free Electricity Benefit for Officers Discontinued
In a significant policy shift, electricity companies have decided to terminate the long-standing practice of providing free electricity units to officers in Grade 17 and above. A recent notification has been issued, outlining the changes set to take effect from December 1, 2023.
As per the notification, officers in Grade 17 through 21 will no longer receive complimentary electricity units. Instead, they will be compensated with a monetary amount corresponding to their respective grades. This move marks a departure from the tradition of offering free electricity to officers, and it aims to bring about a more transparent and equitable system.
The notification specifies the monetary compensation for each grade:
- Grade 17 officers will receive 15,858 rupees monthly.
- Grade 18 officers will be compensated with 21,996 rupees monthly.
- Grade 19 officers will receive 37,594 rupees monthly.
- Grade 20 officers will be given 46,992 rupees monthly.
- Grade 21 officers will receive 55,536 rupees monthly.
Furthermore, the notification emphasizes that officers are now required to settle their electricity bills directly with the respective electricity companies. This change is expected to streamline the billing process and align with broader transparency and accountability measures.
The decision reflects a broader trend of reevaluating perks and benefits within public services, aiming for a fair and standardized approach. The implementation of this policy is anticipated to contribute to a more sustainable and accountable framework within the electricity sector.
