Finance Minister Asad Umar Will be Leading ECC Meeting Today
Finance Minister Asad Umar is scheduled to lead a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in Islamabad later today.
The meeting that will be under the supervision of Asad Umar will agenda points that will include cement prices along with its demand and supply. The ECC will also talk about Pakistan’s sugar reserves and mull over a summary regarding export of the reserves.
Furthermore, a summary to increase electricity tariff will also be discussed by the committee. A report on liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and agreements will also be presented in the meeting, said sources.
The power division has also suggested to increase electricity tariff by at least Rs 2 and at most by Rs 3.75.
Moreover, recommendations from the Power Division and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (NEPRA) to shift the burden of increase in tariff will also be mulled over by the ECC.
During the ECC’s previous meeting, the decision to increase electricity tariff was postponed till the next session.
Sources further said that matters pertaining to the sale of K-Electric’s shares to Shanghai Electric will also be discussed today along with a recommendation to increase tobacco’s sales rate.
