Former Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani passes away at 72. Family sources confirmed that Siraj Durrani had been under treatment for a heart-related illness and was hospitalized last month. His health deteriorated, leading to his death in Karachi.
President Asif Ali Zardari mourned the death of Agha Siraj Durrani terming him as a faithful and upright party member of the Pakistan Peoples Party. Zardari highlighted that Siraj Durrani played a major role in provincial governance and the strengthening of democratic institutions.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also expressed condolences, noting that Agha Siraj Durani contributed to the development of Sindh’s legislative system and remained committed to public service throughout his career.
Agha Siraj Durrani had been associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party for more than four decades. He served three times as provincial minister and twice as Speaker of the Sindh Assembly. From May 31, 2013, to May 25, 2024, Siraj Durrani served as Speaker and also held the position of Acting Governor of Sindh from March to October 2022.
He was first elected to the Sindh Assembly in 1988 and was recognized as a close associate of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar paid tribute to Agha Siraj Durrani, saying his contributions to democracy and provincial politics will always be remembered. He stated that leaders like Siraj Durrani are rare in politics and that his commitment to the people of Sindh stands as a lasting legacy.
Family members confirmed that Agha Siraj Durani had been admitted to the hospital due to a heart ailment and passed away after prolonged illness.
