Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has made a significant announcement to provide 1,224 flats at no cost to labourers in Taxila and Sundar labour colonies. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the welfare of workers in the region.

During a session chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz, the Labour Department’s performance reviewed. Officials provided updates on various projects aimed at supporting labourers, including the workers’ scholarship program, labour colonies, and health facilities.
Financial Relief for Labourers
The Punjab CM has directed the payment of Rs. 6 billion in dues for death and marriage grants owed to labourers. Additionally, the construction of two hostels for women workers in Garment City approved, along with a free accommodation facility for 704 women workers in Sheikhupura.
Labour Reforms and Safety Measures
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of implementing labour reforms, including occupational safety and health measures, and laws regarding the minimum wage. She confirmed that the minimum wage of Rs. 37,000 will enforced with the collaboration of all stakeholders.
The CM highlighted the government’s responsibility to protect every worker and stressed the need for workplace safety protocols and the provision of safety gear for sanitary staff.
