In a significant move to alleviate traffic congestion in Lahore, the Punjab Development Working Party (PDWP) has given the green light for the construction of a flyover and underpass at the bustling Garhi Shahu Chowk. The decision, made during the 37th PDWP meeting chaired by Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Chairman of the Planning and Development (P&D) Board, aims to streamline traffic flow and enhance connectivity in the city.

The approved project comes with a substantial budget of Rs. 3,951.469 million, underscoring the commitment to effectively address the long-standing traffic issues at Garhi Shahu Chowk. The envisioned flyover and underpass are poised to bring relief to commuters navigating this crucial junction.

The 37th PDWP meeting witnessed the active involvement of key figures, including Secretary P&D Board Muzaffar Khan Sial and other esteemed members. Their collective decision reflects a concerted effort to prioritize infrastructure development for the benefit of Lahore’s residents.

In tandem with the Garhi Shahu Chowk project, officials also granted approval for a signal-free corridor spanning from Karim Market to Motorway (M-2) Phase-I, Lahore. This initiative, backed by a budget of Rs. 2,975.034 million, aims to further enhance transportation efficiency in the city.

Moreover, the meeting endorsed a budget of Rs. 635 million for the conservation and upgradation of shrines and mosques in Uch Sharif, coupled with the development of a pilgrim trail. This multifaceted approach underscores the government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage alongside modern infrastructure initiatives.

Impact on Commuters:

Once completed, the flyover and underpass at Garhi Shahu Chowk are expected to significantly reduce travel times and ease congestion, contributing to a smoother commuting experience for residents and visitors alike. The signal-free corridor will further add to the overall improvement of Lahore’s transportation network.

With these recent approvals and budget allocations, Lahore is poised for transformative changes in both its traffic infrastructure and cultural heritage conservation. The concerted efforts of the PDWP signify a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Lahore’s citizens, marking a positive step towards a more developed and accessible urban landscape.
