Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply in several areas of Karachi due to ongoing work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project near Safora Chowrangi. According to an official spokesperson, the suspension will affect Gulistan-e-Johar Blocks 1, 2, 3, 14, and 15, from 11 PM to 4 AM as the company relocates a gas pipeline for the project.
This suspension adds to Karachi’s existing gas crisis, where residents are already grappling with low gas pressure. Many households have been forced to turn to alternative cooking methods like wood stoves as the gas shortage worsens.
Additionally, leaking gas meters and faulty pipelines in several neighborhoods have further fueled frustrations among domestic and commercial users. A recent power failure at the Nimat Busal plant also contributed to the disruption of supply, worsening the situation.
