Government Employees to Get Higher Rental Allowance Soon!

The Ministry of Housing and Construction has proposed a major boost to the monthly rental ceiling allowance for federal employees, aiming to ease their financial burdens amid the high cost of living. The proposal, now in the Finance Division for review, is one of the first major steps to increase support for government staff with meaningful rent relief.

If the Finance Division approves, this plan will go to the Prime Minister for the final nod. This increase is quite impactful: employees in grades one to ten would see a full 100% hike in rental ceiling allowance, grades eleven to sixteen a 75% increase, and senior officers in grades seventeen to twenty-two a 50% rise.

This proposed raise translates into specific rent ceilings: for example, employees in Islamabad in grades one and two now have a monthly ceiling of Rs14,058, while employees in other cities would have Rs13,182. For those in grades three to six, the ceiling goes up to Rs21,960 for Islamabad and Rs19,308 elsewhere. Meanwhile, higher grades like nineteen would see a Rs82,056 ceiling in Islamabad, with Rs70,224 in other cities.

The ministry is focusing on making federal employees’ lives easier, especially in terms of housing costs, which can be a big part of monthly expenses. This rental ceiling allowance hike could provide the breathing room many government workers have been hoping for in challenging times. For many, this change would mean more flexibility in their budgets and hopefully better living conditions.
