Govt to Compensate Damages that Took Place During Protests
On Wednesday, the federal government declared that it will compensate all those who suffered losses during the country-wide protests, which took place after a Supreme Court verdict that acquitted Asia Bibi.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has asked assessments to be conducted for citizens whose properties were damaged during the protests and has also asked the Punjab government to prepare a compensation package for the losses.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry had briefed PM Imran on the riots that took place which were led by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and the processes that have begun to find the miscreants.
According to the Interior Ministry, roughly 1,800 people have currently been arrested for vandalism, arson, and torture of ordinary citizens as well as law enforcement officials.
Last week, religious parties carried out protests which ended after the group came in agreement with the government on Friday night. The three-day protests were followed by a top court verdict which had acquitting Asia Bibi — a Christian woman who was sentenced to death and has been jailed for almost 8 years on blasphemy charges.
