Green Line Karachi to Intersect with Orange Line

The Green Line project in Karachi, which has been making public transport a bit easier, is about to get a boost. This was decided in a meeting held on Friday. The main points of discussion were connecting the Green Line with the Orange Line and improving the overall quality of service for the people of Karachi.

The Green Line was formally transferred from the federal to the Sindhi government back in December 2024. The Sindh government is now aiming to increase the number of buses, under the direction of Provincial Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon. This move aims to improve the efficiency and quality of the service for daily commuters.

Earlier in March, the Sindh government had already announced a free shuttle service to link passengers traveling on both lines of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). This shuttle service was an alternative to the earlier plan of letting Orange Line buses run on Green Line tracks, ending at Nagan Chowrangi.

With the transfer of control now in the Sindh government’s hands, there’s a renewed push to merge the two lines properly. Minister Memon also talked about how the federal government is planning to provide a Rs 2 billion subsidy to support the project.
