The Ministry of Religious Affairs has extended the deadline for Hajj applications under the government Hajj scheme, postponing the lucky draw initially scheduled for December 6. According to ministry sources, the deadline will now likely be extended by 13 days, with the lucky draw to take place on December 19, 2024.
Lower-Than-Expected Applications Prompt Deadline Extension
To date, approximately 55,000 applications have been received, falling short of expectations. The ministry hopes the extension will allow more individuals to submit their applications. A formal announcement confirming the revised schedule is anticipated tomorrow.
Banks Directed to Facilitate Applications
To streamline the submission process, the State Bank of Pakistan had instructed designated banks to remain open on weekends until 2:30 PM, enabling applicants to submit forms before the earlier deadline of December 3.
Reduced Hajj Airfares Announced for 2025
In a move to ease financial burdens on pilgrims, the government announced a reduction in Hajj airfares for 2025. The revised fare is Rs220,000 per person, which is Rs14,000 less than the previous year’s fare of Rs234,000. This reduction of $50 per person will collectively save pilgrims Rs1.24 billion.
The airfare reduction results from successful negotiations between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). This marks the second consecutive year of lowered Hajj airfares, with other airlines, including Saudi Airlines and private Pakistani carriers, expected to follow suit soon.
Travel Plan for Hajj Pilgrims
Under the agreed-upon travel plan:
- 40% of pilgrims will travel with PIA,
- 40% with Saudi Airlines,
- 20% with private Pakistani airlines.
Encouraging Participation for the Holy Pilgrimage
The Ministry of Religious Affairs remains committed to making Hajj 2025 accessible and affordable for as many Pakistanis as possible. Further updates regarding the application deadline and lucky draw schedule will be announced shortly.
