In a tragic turn of events on Sunday night, Ameer Balaj Tipu, known as a prominent figure in Lahore’s underworld, was fatally shot in what authorities suspect to be a targeted killing. The incident unfolded during a wedding ceremony in the Chuhng area, where an armed assailant opened fire, critically injuring Balaj and three others.
According to police reports, the assailant was met with retaliatory fire from Balaj’s companions, resulting in his demise as well. Despite efforts to save him, Balaj succumbed to his injuries at Jinnah Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of familial enmity that spans generations.
The scene at the hospital grew tense as fears of potential clashes loomed, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and notable political figures such as PML-N’s MNA-elect Attaullah Tarar.
While investigations are ongoing, DIG (Operations) Ali Nasir Rizvi hinted at the possibility of longstanding enmity as the motive behind the attack. Notably, Balaj’s family has a history marked by tragedies stemming from deep-rooted rivalries, with both his father, Tipu Truckanwala, and grandfather having met similar fates in the past.
Balaj’s recent affiliation with the PML-N, following his departure from the PTI, adds another layer to the complex narrative surrounding his life and demise. His reputation as a key player in Lahore’s underworld further underscores the gravity of this incident, as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the motives behind his assassination.
