A potent western weather system is on the horizon, poised to bring heavy rainfall to Karachi and its neighboring regions. Following its journey through the Gulf states, this system has now entered Balochistan, becoming a cause for concern in the coastal areas of Makran.
The effects of this system will begin to manifest over Karachi and Sindh from this evening. While it won’t be as severe as the cyclonic storms experienced in the Gulf states, residents should still prepare for significant rainfall.
Today evening onwards, there is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by rain along the coastal belt of Sindh. Over the next 24 hours, southern and eastern parts of Sindh may also experience thunderstorms with rainfall.
While Karachi may receive heavy rainfall from this system, it won’t be as intense as the cyclonic storms seen in the Gulf states. Rainfall amounts in Karachi are expected to range from 15 to 40 millimeters.
The weather analyst notes that the sea surface temperature in the Arabian Sea is higher than usual. As a result, the system can draw moisture from the Arabian Sea in the form of humidity.
The meteorological department reports that the western winds are impacting Balochistan. Under this influence, areas including Jiwani, Dado, Nushki, Sanghar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Sajawal, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghhotki, and the Karachi division may experience light to moderate rainfall with occasional thunderstorms until the morning of April 19.
