HEC and KPT Buildings in Karachi to Fully Convert to Solar Power

Two major government institutions, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT), have taken a significant step towards sustainability by switching their headquarters and branch offices to solar power for electricity backup. This initiative marks a key move in reducing their dependence on traditional energy sources.

A notification revealed that HEC plans to install a 350-kilowatt solar system at its headquarters in Islamabad. Additionally, solar systems will be installed at HEC’s regional offices, with the Karachi office receiving 85 kilowatts, the Lahore center 135 kilowatts, and the Peshawar center 100 kilowatts.

This transition to solar energy demonstrates the government’s commitment to renewable energy solutions, setting a strong example for other institutions in the country. By adopting solar power, HEC and KPT are expected to reduce operational costs and promote eco-friendly practices, aligning with the nation’s broader goal of achieving energy sustainability.
